About Stevie and Bob Ross Painting
I began to hear about Bob Ross in the 1980s, but his show was not televised in my area (Burbank, CA). Then when I moved to Arizona
in 1991, I began to watch Bob Ross on Saturday mornings.
When I first watched Bob Ross, I was mesmerized by his soothing voice and
how easy it looked to paint a picture. His mild demeanor, as well as his gentle prodding "You can do it" urged me to try his method
of painting. So I went to the store and bought one of his books and some supplies, and I was off and running. I found out about the
Bob Ross teacher certification program when I subscribed to his TV Art Club. I became a Certified Bob Ross Landscape Instructor in
1994, followed by my Floral Certification in 1995 and my Wildlife Certification in 2002.
It was a loss to more than the painting world
when Bob Ross passed away in 1995. His kindness and his ability to inspire people to try new things are what we all remember about
him. I have a great deal of respect for people who are able to motivate others to stretch beyond their abilities to increase their
self-esteem. And this was the gift that Bob Ross had.
That’s what I like about teaching the Bob Ross method of painting . I love it
when I see students try something they thought they could never do!
