for Under-painting
PRE-WORK REQUIRED:
This painting is done on a black canvas. You need to prep your canvas with two coats of black acrylic paint
BEFORE you come to class. Use a throw-away 1" foam brush to apply the acrylic in two thin coats, letting the paint dry thoroughly
between coats.
The black acrylic paint is in the hobby/craft department at Michaels or Hobby Lobby. Two good brands are
either Deco Art Americana or Delta Ceramcoat. The cost for a 2-oz. bottle is about $1.00.

IF YOU BRING YOUR OWN SUPPLIES:
If you're not renting brushes and paints for class, you must bring ALL your own paints, brushes
and other supplies for the class. Winsor Newton Water Mixable Oils are sold in sets at Michaels and Hobby Lobby, and they have
a starter set that retails for about $28.00. If you use a 40%-off coupon published from those stores in the Sunday paper,
that's a good deal; but there may be other colors needed that aren't included in that kit -- be sure to check. Check your supply
list to make sure you have ALL the necessary paints, brushes, palette paper and other supplies shown below. There is no
way to buy any supplies once you get to class. If you don't bring all required supplies with you, you may not
be able to complete the painting.
Be sure to bring water-mixable oil paints to class. If you have traditional oils and
want to use them you may do so, but bring enough brushes that you don't have to clean them until you get home. NO paint thinner
will be allowed in the classroom.
Don’t wait until the day before class to buy your supplies. If you do, it’s likely you
won’t be able to find everything you need. You may need to go to more than one store to find all the supplies. If you
can’t find all the required paint colors, buy another brand of water-mixable oil color – but don’t come to class without all required
supplies.
If you purchase the Winsor & Newton Artisan brand beginner set of water-mixable oils, it won’t contain Magenta. You need to purchase that color separately, or just do without it; but the instructor will not supply it. Your painting will look
different from the sample if you don’t use these colors.
